Instructions are at http://wiki.eclipse.org/Project_Download_Stats (be sure to see p2 notes at the bottom) and http://wiki.eclipse.org/Equinox_p2_download_stats for enabling the repository to track downloads. Suggest we track each major feature, and track M3 and official .7 release separately.
I have made the changes for the M3 downloads. Keeping this open since it'll be used for the same change in the 0.7 download. The ID for M3 is org.eclipse.edt.V07M3. The ID for 0.7 will be org.eclipse.edt.V070. If you want download stats for both you can just use org.eclipse.edt. Theresa: I downloaded M3 as a test today, at about 12:50. The download stats query page says "Today's downloads will be added at midnight Eastern Time." Please run a query sometime after tomorrow and append a comment to this bug with the results.
Cool! thanks Matt!
It works! I just searched for downloads of org.eclipse.edt.V07M3 in the last 7 days. It reported six on Nov 4 (the first day we started tracking downloads), one on Nov 6, and five on Nov 7.
Can you get it to work with a local download too? Let's hope those numbers keep going up!
> Can you get it to work with a local download too? I was just working on that! All you need to do is change the URL people use. Instead of http://download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/localUpdateSite.zip, direct people to http://eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/localUpdateSite.zip Eclipse tracks all downloads that go through their download.php page, and I don't see a way to track downloads for a direct link to the file. Unfortunately there's no way to specify an ID like org.eclipse.edt.V07M3 for the zip file. You have to search for it by name (/edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/localUpdateSite.zip) on the download stats query page. > Let's hope those numbers keep going up! Yes, and let's not forget that M3 has been out for a while now. There were probably a ton of downloads before we starting keeping stats.
> Unfortunately there's no way to specify an ID like org.eclipse.edt.V07M3 for > the zip file. You have to search for it by name > (/edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/localUpdateSite.zip) on the download stats query page. I just had a great idea. I'm a genius! We could change the ID of the update site from org.eclipse.edt.V07M3 to /edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/localUpdateSite.zip. That way it'll have the same ID as the zip, and one query gets all the info (except for the dozen or so downloads that use org.eclipse.edt.V07M3). Any objections?
It seems there were no objections, so I'm going to make the change. But due to the renaming of the local update site's zip (for Bug 363164 - Local update site not available for EDT) the ID will be /edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/edt07m3.zip This means we'll have to search on THREE IDs to find all downloads of M3 since we started tracking them. * /edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/edt07m3.zip * /edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/localUpdateSite.zip * org.eclipse.edt.V07M3
changing from a defect to an enhancement (task)
The update site for 0.7 is http://download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/1.0/ Its ID for the download tracker is '/edt/updates/1.0/edt-Update-R070.remote'. The local update site zip for 0.7 is at http://eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/edt/updates/1.0/edt-Update-R070.zip Its ID is '/edt/updates/1.0/edt-Update-R070.zip'. The three 0.7 milestone builds have been moved to the archive server, at http://archive.eclipse.org/edt/ We aren't tracking downloads of them anymore.
This is finally done! I got some help from Matt the Eclipse webmaster, who peeked into the database and confirmed that my install of EDT this morning was logged properly. For the sake of completeness, the update site for the all-in-one builds has ID '/edt/releases/1.0/edt-Release-R070.remote'. The four all-in-one zip files are: /edt/releases/1.0/eglweb-070-lin32.tar.gz /edt/releases/1.0/eglweb-070-lin64.tar.gz /edt/releases/1.0/eglweb-070-win32.zip /edt/releases/1.0/eglweb-070-win64.zip
