We need to look at the roles. When starting the server test applications all development roles are started. However, that may interfere with some of the tests. Only the minimum set of roles should be started.

Additionally, we need to look at having an easy option to launch the server in test mode with a ZooKeeper quorum.

That's not relevant anymore. There is a JUnit rule that starts/stops a server.
