Description Kim Moir CLA 2011-10-21 10:39:30 EDT
Yesterday, access to git.eclipse.org via ssh was intermittent. It would often time out. Today it is completely blocked. I can access git.eclipse.org via the git protocol, but trying via ssh I consistently get network errors. I'm working from home because I'm not feeling well, but I have the same problem over VPN and without VPN. I'm wondering if my address is being blocked from accessing eclipse.org over ssh.

I'll attach a traceroute.

Looks like yesterday you had a few password failures which put Rogers on the block list. I've cleared the block so you should be all set now.

Thanks, I can access git now.

How many is a few password failures? Rogers is a large ISP. A few password failures from several users could remove our access on a regular basis :-(

12 failures ( the cutoff is 10 ), strangely all your id. The block would've expired today at noon automagically.

Well cold meds and Git are not a good combination :-) I think if you enter a bad password EGit might try to connect several times in one session. Thanks for the info.
Comment 6 Kim Moir CLA 2011-10-23 17:26:55 EDT
I'm having the same issue today - can't connect. I had a typo in my url when trying to clone a new repo. Can you please fix this? Also, I think the threshold should be raised about 10. I only had an error once but I think EGit tried to connect multiple times.

The block has expired by itself. But based on the logs it looks just like friday.

We picked 10 as the 'flub' number since most people shouldn't need more than 11 tries before 'asking' for help.

This really sounds like an Egit bug(feature request?), if it's not returning(or detecting) the error when authentication credentials are refused, and continuing to try anyway.

Assuming this is fixed.

We (IBM India labs) are not able to access git.eclipse.org via ssh since yesterday. Are we also blocked? Can you unblock us?
