In Git Repositories view you can right click on a repository and select "Show in > History" from the context menu. This shows the history of the currently checked out branch. However, I often want to see the history of a branch which is not checked out. For example to quickly compare 2 branches, or to make sure I am switching to the right branch before switching to it. But there is no way to do so from Egit. This can be achieved via command line by - git log <branch name>
In the repositories view, you can right-click on a branch and select Show In > History. See bug 381520 for selecting a branch in the history view.
