Description John Arthorne CLA 2011-09-26 09:31:12 EDT
The new project pages look great! One important thing to add would be a link to the project's p2 repository (the "updatesiteurl" property). As part of bug 358415, most projects no longer have links to their repository in the combined release train repository. Therefore users will be left hunting for the link to various project repositories to get extra features and updates for individual projects.

It would be helpful if we could just tell users, go to eclipse.org/projects, click on the project you want, and you can find the link to the binary code repository for that project. Since the link would be designed for Cut&Paste into the Install Software wizard, it could be displayed as plain text rather than an href (to avoid the confusion people get clicking on links to p2 repositories).

How does that look?

I removed the link from the right-nav as there is a better than even chance that the link won't work anyway.

I'm not sure exactly what to call this to make it make sense to the broadest possible audience. "Binary repository" isn't quite right, as it's likely the repository also includes source code. It's really the "built artifacts repository", or "distribution repository". Thoughts?

"Software Repository"?

> "Software Repository"?

That sounds nice and concise.

Looks great! Software Repository sounds good. In the install dialog we call them "Software Sites", but on a web page like this I think that could be misinterpreted as a web site.?

Based on John's feedback, I'm declaring victory.
