Description Jing Qian CLA 2011-09-15 10:04:52 EDT
How will user get the EDT sample projects into their workspace.

some choices

1. click get samples from welcome page
2. do it like CE, whenever user creates a web project, they will get the sample projects
3. do it like RBD, user get it from Help.

maybe a 4th choice.

EGL => New => Samples...
we can then list all the samples there.
Comment 2 Theresa Ramsey CLA 2011-09-15 11:02:21 EDT
In CE, we actually pre-loaded the widgets and samples into the workspace on startup. We still need a way to get the samples (from Help/Welcome page) in case they deleted them and wanted them back. So at a minimum, we need the samples in the Help.

Raise to be critical, as we're running out of time for Iteration 15, design needs to be decided and implementation needs to start.

This will become blocking once we enter SVT, as there isn't a way to get samples from installable build

Some samples should be included with the product. These samples are typically able from Help and the Welcome page. In particular, the Dojo sample and RUI technical sample should be provided.

We need to find a developer to work on the code that import the sample like RBD does - you click on a "Get the sample" link and it brings the project files into the workspace.

Brian has another idea that end user can just import these samples from edt web site. That would be the easist (no development work needed), if Theresa and Will think it is ok

I don't think we want the Samples page of the Welcome to be totally void of any EDT samples. Though we should link to EDT page for any additional samples, tutorials, etc.

I talked to Justin about this yesterday. We were looking at JDT samples, and they host them remotely, but still have a single click to get the sample project into your workspace.

I'm ok either doing like we do today in RBD, loading the sample from Help system or doing it like JDT. Justin thought the RBD way maybe easier since we already have the code.

We need to assign this to a developer to size and do this work. Recommendations? Brian?

Changing this back to a P1 enhancement.

Hi Justin,
Can you see what it would take to import the samples, say from the product help?
Comment 9 Brian Svihovec CLA 2011-11-14 16:59:04 EST
At this point, it may be best to put the samples on the WIKI.
Comment 10 Justin Spadea CLA 2011-11-15 13:54:45 EST
I've taken a look at the code from CE and it looks like we can reuse it. However it will need to go through a CQ, so I don't know if we have enough time to include it in the IP log. We will also need to run the samples through the CQ process.

If we instead put the samples on the wiki, we can put a link to the wiki samples page in the place where we would normally put the samples.
Comment 11 Justin Spadea CLA 2011-12-02 14:15:39 EST
We decided to just put the samples on the wiki for 0.7.0. We can hook them into the IDE in the next release.
Comment 12 Theresa Ramsey CLA 2012-02-21 17:12:34 EST
for . release it's ok to just have the samples on the website. For 1.0 we'll want some samples included in the product and linked from Welcome/Samples page.
