Description Christian Campo CLA 2011-09-13 10:09:28 EDT
I am not sure if this is a problem in PDE or in p2.

What I did was this. I installed Eclipse IDE for RCP and RAP developers. This contains also EGit and JGit.

Later I installed nightly builds of EGit http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates-nightly. (thats EGit 1.1) What PDE or p2 did was it replaced the original plugins from the feature that came with Eclipse 3.7 with the new EGit plugins.

Not sure what happened with the original 1.0 EGit version but it was either deleted or moved to a place that I dont off.

Now EGit 1.1. comes out and I'd like to test the rc2. Turns out the nightly build is later (in build number) than the RC.

Now I am stuck.

I still can not install a lower version number (if a higher already exists) (which I find really annoying) even all the plugins or features that are dependant dont require this nightly build number.

I can uninstall the EGit feature but all the plugins will stay in place, since they are part of the RCP feature which has now taken over the high version EGit and JGit plugins as being part of their feature. Again no way to downgrade or uninstall here.

So the only option is to delete all of the IDE, install a new one, install all my plugins and so on.
Am I missing something here ?

Christian, perhaps you can revert your installation to an older date before you installed the EGit nightly and then install their RC2 afterwards?

Have you tried uninstalling 1.1 and installing 1.0?
Comment 3 Christian Campo CLA 2011-09-13 10:50:30 EDT
I uninstalled 1.1 and got a warning that it would leave a list of plugins in place because other components had dependencies. At the end it remove the EGit feature 1.1. but left all the EGit and JGit plugins there because they are need by the RCP feature.

(I wrote that in description. Sorry if that wasnt clear)

That was clear, it is also expected. My question is since removing the 1.1 feature, have you tried to install the 1.0 egit feature?

So I had everything deleted but now I did it again and you cannot installed 1.0 egit feature….

I downloaded this time eclipse 3.7 rcp version which contains egit 1.0, then I installed http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates-1.1. Once that was done and I restarted the IDE, I could not downgrade to http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates-1.0 not even after I uninstalled EGit/JGit,EGit Mylyn. It would always tell me that a new version exists for "Eclipse EGit" "Eclipse JGit".

Matt and I looked into this. The issue is probably in the PlanAnalyzer code that tries to help you :)
To work around this, you can do the install from cli using the director application.

Thanks Pascal, I am fine, I dont need a workaround. In the meantime I have reinstalled the IDE and have a working IDE. However I am pretty sure that I run into this problem again, so we keep this open until you know a solution. OK ?

yep, this definitely needs to stay open.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
