Description Will Smythe CLA 2011-08-23 23:08:33 EDT
Create a "hello world" tutorial for helping new users become acquainted with the EDT IDE. Simple end-to-end flow, hitting project creation, creating a RUI and service, calling the service, running, debugging, and deploying).

Linked from main page (under Getting Started area) and Documentation page.

Should be HTML, following style of EDT web site, modeled on the following: http://www.eclipse.org/Xtext/documentation/2_0_0/020-domainmodel-step-by-step.php
Comment 1 Will Smythe CLA 2011-08-23 23:11:32 EDT
Tutorial should roughly follow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKTNgoT0cU

More details on points to consider covering in the tutorial:
* Creating a new EGL CE project
* Creating a new RUI handler (with Dojo widgets), visually adding widgets from the * Palette, setting widget properties, and adding event handler functions
* Creating a simple (no database access) EGL service
* Calling the service (as a dedicated service) from the RUI handler
* Previewing and running the app in the VE Preview
* Setting breakpoints in both RUI and service code and debugging (end to end) in an external browser
* Deploying the app into a dynamic, Tomcat-targeted Web project
* Running the deployed app on the server

changed from a critical defect to a Priority 1 enhancement, as this is not a code defect.
