It would be great to have a headless correspondence to the org.eclipse.rcp feature when building headless products. It would typically include the same as org.eclipse.rcp minus everything that is UI related.

Perhaps the org.eclipse.rcp feature could be split in two? One headless feature that would be included by a UI feature?

See bug 329722. Several new features were added last year to attempt to capture these sorts of use cases. The problem is not all dicings of the existing feature sets will be suitable for everyone. The Equinox Core + Core Runtime features should produce something like org.eclipse.rcp minus the UI bits.

They will undoubtedly help a lot. They seem to be in the 3.8 repository only. Would it be OK to add them to 4.2?

I'm missing the launcher plug-in with all it's fragments. A feature containing all supported ones (all that are in the repository) would be very helpful. The org.eclipse.equinox.executable feature would be a good candidate for that if it was kept consistent with the repository but I don't find that either in 4.2.

I've opened bug 355433 	to request that these features be added to the 4.2 build.
