Description Silenio Quarti CLA 2011-08-13 23:22:58 EDT
Editing code without all the key bindings is nearly impossible. We should have a button to popup a menu that let us choose a binding to execute.

should we add this to the "key assist" dialog?
if so then it would need focus.

note that "keyboard help" is now in the user menu so you can get to it without a binding.

i guess you probably need an editor-only solution too.

Keyboard Help is now in the User menu? Does that mean you can close bug 349602?

We can stop worrying about that part of the bug (how to find out about the keybindings without a keybinding) but the rest of the bug was about having keybindings set up for most commands, which we don't right now.

For tablets, I could imagine the key assist dialog having larger buttons for each action, and you just invoke the action by hitting the button directly in that popup. I.e., I don't think a tablet user wants to open a quick reference popup, and then popup the keyboard and attempt to type that in. Just let them click the action directly from key assist.

Having the key assist in the Options menu is probably still a bit fiddly on the tablet for something you'll need to do alot. The Options menu in its current form is a small target to hit.. although if it was one of those giant "gear" buttons it would probably be ok.

My understanding is that we would still need an editor-only solution to this problem, yes? So that users of the editor outside of Orion have a tablet solution? Just asking because I think it affects our action API and whether editor should have user facing names for actions (so that it could support this feature). See bug 377828

Here i is some progress on this area. It is possible to execute the action from the key assist panel now.
