High-Level task for core / non-UI EMF context support. I'd like to do as much of this non-UI dependent as possible.

All of the sub-tasks are complete. However I'm going to keep this open as there are certain to be other issues that crop up WRT to this. Also, there is a lot of refactoring to do, so everything should be regarded as fluid.

The basic bridge should be pretty solid now. Some of this might change as a result of bug 352897.
