Description Mohsen Vakilian CLA 2011-07-07 17:29:02 EDT
Build Identifier: 20110615-0604

We've set up an update site for our plug-in called codingspectator (codingspectator.cs.illinois.edu) and we've added it to Eclipse Marketplace to make it even easier to install our plug-in (See marketplace.eclipse.org/content/codingspectator/). But, we are unable to find codingspectator in the listings at "Help -> Eclipse Marketplace..." on Eclipse Helios SR2 and Indigo. When we search for "CodingSpectator", we get no matches. But, when we click on "Browse for more solutions.". We find CodingSpectator on the resulting page and we're able to install it from there.

Others have reported similar problems with the Marketplace client. See <http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/mv/msg/214994/687559/#msg_687559> and <http://stackoverflow.com/q/6438713/130224>.

Why doesn't the Eclipse Marketplace client find codingspectator directly at "Help -> Eclipse Marketplace..."?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to Help > Eclipse Marketplace...
2. Enter CodingSpectator in the "Find" search field.
3. Hit the "Go" button.
4. The Marketplace client won't find any matches for CodingSpectator. But, will present a link with title "0 matches. Browse for more solutions.". If you click on the link, Eclipse will open the page of CodingSpectator on Eclipse Marketplace.

The problem is that the search on the website and the API search differ pretty heavily.

Searching for CodeInspector leads to 0 results if done with the REST API http://marketplace.eclipse.org/api/p/search/apachesolr_search/codingspectator

As this is a server-side problem, I'm pushing this over to you Nathan.

I don't think this is true anymore. Aside from MPC generally not showing certain entries (e.g. only member companies and open-source tools are shown in MPC), the search looks consistent to me now.
