Description Keith Arnett CLA 2011-06-13 16:01:25 EDT
Build Identifier: 3.5.2.r36_r20100816 (org.eclipse. help.webapp)

At present the help customization preferences for Infocenter are limited to:

advanced.toolbarBackground
advanced.toolbarFont

Additional customizations for the help toolbars would be a significantly welcome addition, esp. toolbar height and border. This is primarily about enabling users to customize the Infocenter interface to a relatively current look and feel. Many web pages are using larger icons for command buttons, and the current 16x16 size and inability to define borders enforces an older look.

Many help developers are finding that a web-based help delivery mechanism is the way to go in today's web-centered application environment. As a url-based help system, Infocenter is ideally suited for this -- especially as it can be packaged and installed as a WAR file. Naturally, the help developer (along with associated PMs and usability contributors) want the Infocenter to be branded, and distinctly unique to the product it supports.

To a large extent, this is possible with the existing customization preferences, which enable a pretty good level of rebranding and UI differentiation. While it is possible to substitute custom toolbar icons, the icon size and border limitations have left my Usability Experience designer asking for more.

Implementing the ability to manipulate additional toolbar properties through CSS will further enhance the attractiveness of Infocenter as a web-based online documentation distribution mechanism.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://help.eclipse.org/helios/topic/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/guide/ua_help_setup_preferences.htm
2.Observe that toolbar customizations are limited to background and font.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
