I noticed that Papyrus, like EMF itself, isn't listed under modeling in the index at http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/. I assume that's because of the naming convention we've used (where the name itself doesn't indicate it's a modeling forum) isn't explicit. This makes the grouping kind of meaningless and confusing (given the latest naming convention doesn't make that explicit). Probably we should eliminate the grouping entirely or we should get the grouping information from the portal metadata...

.. or we can just move it manually and avoid another script which will eventually break?
Note that Papyrus and EMF are just two examples of many dozens of miscatagorized modeling projects. Do I need to compile that explicit list? That solves the modeling project ones but leaves other projects still badly categorized. Will we need to review this manual every time a new project is created? Also, I'm not sure how the description of the EMF newsgroup ends up being like this: Come here to participate in discussions about development with or of CDO. Can I change that somewhere. It's not just the CDO newsgroup, though it sometimes seems that way. :-P

If you do, I'll be happy to move them into the Modeling category. It's a manual process, but a simple and quick one. > That solves the modeling project ones but leaves other projects still badly > categorized. > > Will we need to review this manual every time a new project is created? Whenever a forum/newsgroup is created, it should be categorized properly. I'd say that an overall review of the categories would be prudent once every couple of years to make sure we don't need to re-organize. I don't know what information Denis gets currently when a new forum/newsgroup is requested - Category should probably be among that data, though. I've wanted to suggest some more/better categories for the forums for a while now, but haven't found the time to go through the effort. If you have suggestions, I'd be willing to participate in a discussion and even help implement the result.
I'm going to start with a new category named "Archived" and move forums for projects that are officially archived into there.
These ones need to be moved to modeling: AM3 AMW B3 BPEL Designer BPMN Modeler Epsilon eTrice Extended Editing Framework (READ ONLY) Faceted Project Framework MoDisco MOFScript Presentation Modeling Framework (PMF) Sphinx Textual Concrete Syntax (TCS) UMLX VIATRA2 What about the poor description for the EMF newsgroup? Where does that come from?
Looks like the Modeling category should have some sub-categories. Ed, can you provide a list of sub-categories and which forums should go into each of them? As for the description, I think it comes from project metadata but I'm not 100% certain. Denis?
(In reply to comment #6) > What about the poor description for the EMF newsgroup? Where does that come > from? That's from me. I tried to mimic all the other components that added their own forum entry but pointed to their project's newsgroup. Note that the project homepage link points to CDO's homepage. I have no clue why this entry is labeled EMF and not CDO ;-(

No, CDO uses the EMF newsgroup. It doesn't have its own.
(In reply to comment #9) > That forum group is linked to the newsgroup eclipse.tools.emf > I don't know of any newsgroup that is CDO-specific; is there one? CDO does not have its own newsgroup but, as I already said, I was inspired by the separate forum entries of, let's say, Compare (should probably be EMF Compare and point to eclipse.tools.emf, not eclipse.modeling.emf) and EcoreTools (should probably point to eclipse.technology.emft, not eclipse.modeling.emft).
I've moved all the forums from Comment 6 into the Modeling category. That category now has almost 40 forums, so it really needs another level of organization. Someone please provide some grouping info (see Comment 7).
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. -- The automated Eclipse Genie.
I'll close this as FIXED. We have >200 projects, and making for forums front page make any sense will be impossible.

I suspected they were related. Thanks for taking it on. Great things lie ahead for me. I can feel it.
