As in previous years, we will soon need an "Indigo Info Center". (for Helios counterpart, see bug 315157). This partially depends on webmasters, to create and prepare http://help.eclipse.org/indigo/ and, partially on projects, to document here in this bugzilla, where to "pull" (copy) their final help document bundles from. Typically, this would be "final" release document bundles produced by the end of RC4 (or, earlier since some projects may not have to rebuild for RC4). (That is, typically there is no need to "test" with early versions). The target to complete the info center is the end of "quiet week", 6/17 at the latest. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up - but I'm not sure, this could well be our mistake, e.g., the bundle contains a small number of Java classes and defines a few extensions. I did try it locally and it worked, but obviously that testing wasn't enough. Are there any logs where I could check if our bundle misbehaved in any noticeable way? One idea: the bundle specifies a BREE as J2SE-1.5, could that cause it to fail in the help center? Maybe I should repackage the thing removing all Java stuff?

But I think I found my mistake: dependencies on bundles that are most likely not installed in the info center. I've repackaged into (on build.eclipse.org): /shared/tools/objectteams/org.eclipse.objectteams.otdt.doc_2.0.0.201106132004.jar org.eclipse.objectteams.otdt.ui.help_2.0.0.201106070730.jar should be removed Sorry for the hassle!

After re-creating the info center I still don't see the Graphiti docs(even if they are the only doc installed). And I'm sure the banner used to be correct, or was I mistaken? -M.

Well the help Jar is org.eclipse.help.base_3.6.0.v201106030909.jar so I expect that would satisfy the version check. I tried turning the debug option on, but didn't see any errors. Maybe the platform team might have some insight? -M.

I compared our docu plugin with some others that appear and found two differences: the hard dependency to org.eclipse.help and the accidental definition of a Java execution environment (JavaSE-1.6). Using the original graphiti doc bundle, I did confirm that the JavaSE1.6 will prevent the doc from being used/viewable if running an infocenter with 1.5 VM, but will be used/viewable with a 1.6 VM. So, I suspect our eclipse.org infocenter is being ran with a 1.5 VM. Webmasters, can you confirm? And, I'm asking for the confirmation merely out of curiosity. It should be fine to run with a 1.5 VM ... it is incorrect for a doc bundle to specify a "minimum vm version" at all, much less 1.6. So, just curious. Although, webmasters, at some point over next year, you might want to move up to Java 6, perhaps especially after Java 7 comes out in the fall? But, no particular reason to (that I know of) other than it'd contain "all the latest improvements and bug fixes" and Java 5 will, eventually, at some point, go "out of service". But, I do not pay attention to those dates (and security fixes are often provided even after the "out of service" date, I think). Lastly, Michael, you are correct you do not need a "require bundle" for the org.eclipes.help bundle, since no Java-to-Java classpath-like dependency. I do not think that was the problem in this particular case, but you are right not to have it.

Interested parties might comment on enhancement request bug 371550 ... something that would take some initial extra work from webmasters, but might then free them up from copying everyone's jar files "manually". I'm not sure if EDT is a special case project (that wants to update frequently, "off cycle") or if others would want the ability to more easily update their own help files useful? So, just asking for comments there, if interested. (Or, if you think it'd be a bad idea).
