Description Eugen Paraschiv CLA 2011-05-26 16:39:17 EDT
Build Identifier: I20110524-1000

The view buttons (top right) do not allow drag and drop reordering. This functionality is present in Eclipse 3.x versions.

Reproducible: Always

Please attach screenshots to this bug. I do not know what buttons you are referring to.

This could perhaps be the perspective buttons in the top right which I see can be reordered in 3.x
Comment 3 Eugen Paraschiv CLA 2011-05-27 15:25:51 EDT
The buttons I was referring to are indeed the perspective buttons. In Eclipse 3.x their order can be changed by drag and drop, which is no longer the case in Eclipse 4.x.
Comment 4 Remy Suen CLA 2011-05-27 16:06:59 EDT
We probably have an existing bug for this, but anyway...
Comment 5 Nobody - feel free to take it CLA 2012-06-27 05:43:52 EDT
I think this should me moved to platform/ui.

This is indeed a big usablity problem.

1.) A seach box should be the last widget in the top right corner (and not the perspecitive buttons): please have a look at all other applications with a search bar
2.) The top right corner is too far away when navigating with the mouse: such frequent used buttons should be nearby the typical mouse position (which is typically the top left quadrant). So making the position optional will allow users to move them again to the top left position.

Hi,
Not sure why this is duplicate of bug 364046 - shouldn't it be the other way around? This bug was reported quite a few months before that one, and also there are more people following this one.
Thanks.
Eugen.

Because that's where we were discussion possible work-arounds.

Ok, seems that I did not read the description carefully. My comment actually is about the fixed horizontal position of the perspective buttons in the top right corner which was configurable in Eclipse 3.x (you could move the buttons to the top left corner with vertical positioning - which is more ergonomically). Is this bug already reported or should I open a new one?

That should be bug 340695
