The Tag / Branch selection dialog used for selection a tag / branch to compare with and 'checkout' sorts names lexicographically.  With ascending version numbers, this produces an order where more recent branches / tags are at the bottom.

Having them sorted by date, or alternatively add a 'recent' meta group to the tags and branches would allow the developer to more easily focus on branches she's likely to want to switch to.
