Software Engineer (myself) unable to find, install and use the UML2 add in for the Eclipse platform. Goal is to have a working GUI to manually draw and input a UML2 diagram that was written in another platform and doesnt import. Following the instructions I found on getting UML2 installed and working, having done this on 3 different PC computer machines over 2 weeks (or more), This morning it is adversely impacting my schedule, because it was scheduled to have been done, so Im submitting this bug report. -- Configuration Details -- Product: Eclipse 1.3.2.20110218-0812 (org.eclipse.epp.package.modeling.product) Installed Features: org.eclipse.platform 3.6.2.r362_v20110210-9gF78Gs1FrIGnHDHWkEcopoN8AmxeZflGDGKQi
It seems to me UML2 itself is easy to install from the common repo but UML2 Tools isn't there and take much more effort. Is that what you're complaining about?
UML2Tools is pretty much discontinued and Papyrus is a project focusing on end users, I would say you should try Papyrus to see if it fit your needs. Installing it is quite straightforward, download the Eclipse modeling package, pick the "Install Modeling Components" action, select papyrus, next, finish and voila, you're done !

It is that the documentation indicated or suggested I could open a project and edit UML diagrams graphically; BUT installing a text version from the common repo was easy, yes; the graphical tools were not there. The documentation suggested that the Eclipse platform offered end to end UML design capability. IF that is the case then it is overly difficult to install

Ok I just finished installing and testing it out, this works as I had expected. When searching text before I did not see the association between "UML" and "Papyrus"; Perhaps the Eclipse documentation can include more about how UML graphical design points to "the Papyrus Project" that would be a great fix. Im running Eclipse Modeling Tools Version: Helios Service Release 2 Build id: 20110301-1815 And have installed the Papyrus "extras" or add-ins and this provides the UI that I was looking for. With this, I can now run UML design in Eclipse and my concerns are satisfied. Can the main Eclipse UML page/documentation results be updated to associate UML with Papyrus?
There is only an interim build, which can be isntalled into eclipse 3.6. You can install it from http://www.eclipse.org/modeling/updates/interim/ or http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/mdt/uml2tools/updates/interim/ Releasing a new R-Build of Uml2Tools takes much mor effort , but I try to do this as soon as possible.
