Build Identifier: I20110329-2200 This problem is found and reported in DBCS enablement test, but the problem may be not caused by DBCS. Comparing two MS word documents which have .docx file extension, Text compare editor shows garbled characters in the editor. When the MS word documents are .doc file extension, no problem. JDK version: java full version "JRE 1.6.0 IBM Windows 32 build pwi3260sr9fp1-20110208_03 (SR9 FP1)" OS: Windows XP SP3 (Japanese) MS Word: MS Office Professional Plus 2010, MS word version is 14.0.4760.1000 (32 bit) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Create two MS word document files and save the files. Ensure that file extension is .docx 2. Create a simple project in Eclipse 3. Copy the two MS word document files and paste them in the project. 4. Select the two MS word document files in project explorer, and open context menu. Compare > each other

Created attachment 195187 [details] Fix v01 Adding .docx file extension fixed the issue. From now on, files with the new extension are recognized as Word Documents and compared using WordMergeViewer.

I verified the fix worked fine with I20110511-0815 build.
