If you add the workspace to a Windows 7 Library *and* you have "refresh automatically" enabled, Eclipse starts to rebuild the workspace every few seconds. My guess is that the indexing of the library creates temporary files or changes hidden files in the workspace. This triggers a rebuild. Which triggers indexing. Ad infinitum. Please enhance the refresh code to ignore changes causes by Windows 7 indexing.
This seems a serious issue. Also because it needs some discovery time before you understand what is triggering these rebuilds. If the build itself is substantial, it is a going to be building continuously (e.g. if Maven is involved in the (re-)build process). Is there any planning on this?
There is no investigation or planned work on this. First step would be to understand exactly what are these files that Windows is constantly creating.
Happy to facilitate in terms of doing some experiments, though my setup is hardly unique.
People write here that it is not only Windows 7 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5340383/eclipse-starts-building-workspace-in-endless-loop. Also Windows XP and Ubuntu. For me it happens on Win7 and it is very annoying. And it is happens only when I use custom ant builder.
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. -- The automated Eclipse Genie.
