1) clone git://git.eclipse.org/gitroot/virgo/org.eclipse.virgo.documentation.git
2) it will fail with an exception regarding a missing object

It works via the Git CLI.

As bug 329495 points out this is probably due to missing submodule support

The enhancement request to support submodules is bug 314853.
