Colours are being used to differentiate changed/edited memory locations in the Memory view. If a user cannot identify or distinguish colours they will not be able to use the information. There needs to be another way of making that information available. For more information, please see http://www.itic.org/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=vpat2010&category=Initiatives (Section 1194.21 i)
Can you be more specific? Is it that *foreground* color is being used, rather than *background* color, or are you saying that color in either form is an unacceptable cue if it's the only cue?

The latter statement...if colour is the only way to convey information then it is not accessible to all users. Can we add some other indicators? For example an asterisk (*)?

We use a background yellow color to indicate changed data in many other views: Variables, Expressions, Registers... If this is a problem, I'm surprised it was never discussed before. > > Can we add some other indicators? I'm concerned about the idea of using the little triangle icons. The columns of the data pane are packed tightly together, the icons would require more space and I'm concerned that would harm the aesthetics of the data pane. But a bigger issue is that color is also used in the text pane and there's no place to put icons there. I suggest using bold and italics along with color. So for example edited would be green+bold and changed would be red+italics. I would also add these options to the preferences page along with the color options so the user could turn them off.
I've submitted a patch to Gerrit for review. The solution I decided on draws boxes around cells that have been edited or changed and optionally uses bold or italics. Using bold/italics on its own might not be enough to visually differentiate the change. The effects can be configured or turned off from the preferences page. I'd also like to request to backport the patch to cdt_8_1.
The link in the Description is broken. Here's one that works: http://www.access-board.gov/Sec508/guide/1194.21.htm#(j) (and is from a gov. source, directly)
Patch handled via Gerrit. Applied to master and cdt_8_1 Mike, you can resolve this as fixed now against 8.1.2
