Build Identifier: eclipse Helios build from end 2009, 20091202-2000 however other people had same prb with other builds This is a repeat of bug Opensuse 679107 (the number in the opensuse bugzilla); the technician who worked on it concluded that it is a problem on eclipse's side here is a description I just installed Opensuse 11.4 from the live KDE cd I run an eclipse Helios build from end 2009, 20091202-2000, downloaded when I had problems with a previous version of OpenSuse; this was solved via a bug-fix The first updates installs a Java 1.6 jre that allows eclipse to run (not available before first update) Eclipse starts without errors Eclipse exits suddenly; it appears to me that eclipse exits when a frame is opened (for instance, pressing CTRL-spacebar to have completion assistance always exist eclipse - other actions do, not sure if they would open a frame within eclipse) When eclipse exits this way, it just disappears from the screen. When I re-start eclipse, it does not tell me that a session is already open, a sign that eclipse exited completely Usually eclipse prompts for confirm on exit; when crashing on Opensuse 11.4, no prompt is given I am back to Opensuse 11.3 and all works well there. If required, I can reinstall O-S 11.4 and give more feedback. This bug is not crucial for me as reinstalling O-S 11.3 lets me work. someone else reported: I also have the same problem. I installed Eclipse Helios SR1 on openSuse 11.4 with java-1_6_0-sun-devel & java-1_6_0-sun, and it crashes whenever I try to autocomplete something with CTRL+SPACE. I also tried with Eclipse Helios (not the SR1 version) and again with the latest jdk from oracle web site, but the problem remains. I'll see tomorrow if galileo is affected by this problem. Here is a link to what eclipse prints on the console after it crashes : http://pastebin.com/m2gaKaXu and here is the crash report from BugBuddy : http://pastebin.com/y4gVw7v8 Hope this info will help you fix this bug. the technician concluded Reading the http://pastebin.com/y4gVw7v8 the most probable cause is thread 1, which involves Gtk, xulrunner and sun java. For me it's most probable an incompatibility with new xulrunner and eclipse -> upstream bug. I've found the https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=288248 only which is marked as fixed, so I propose you move this bug to eclipse.org bugzilla - there's nothing we can fix in openSUSE ... the outputs provided by the person above are rather long, so perhaps you can just look them up in the Opensuse bugzilla. This problem is not blocking for me; I switched back to Opensuse 11.3 where all works well. Regards Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.install opensuse 11.4 2.run eclipse 3.do an action that opens a frame, like ctrl-spacebar for assisted completion
