Description David Carver CLA 2011-03-09 12:55:01 EST
If a member is eligible to vote, instead of only sending out the links via Email (which people may miss or forget about). The link to vote should be within the Portal as well.

I went searching on the eclipse web sites for the links to vote, and they were not available. If it is difficult to vote, people won't do it.

If you keep it in the portal, then you are guaranteed that people can find it at least in a members/committers only section of the Foundation websites.

We have made a decision to not invest further in the existing portal technology. I would like to keep this bug open, however, as we do intend to replace the portal at some point in the future, and this would be a good feature to consider adding.

Is there a bug open for suggestions on Replacements? I've had good luck using Joomla as a portal in the past. Drupal would be another consideration.

We have been leaning toward Drupal since we have some inhouse experience with it (Eclipse Live and Marketplace).

We did some due diligence on this, but I'm pretty sure we didn't open any bug (I can't find one anyway). For the moment, we really don't have the resources to do much about it.

FWIW, there are two Eclipse projects that show promise: Skalli and Eclipse Enterprise Content Repository Project (still just a proposal).

Vote in what context? If you mean votes for committers, then the actual vote is in the Portal, so a link doesn't make any sense?

Do you mean some other kind of vote, or I am just totally missing the point?

I can see another type of vote : change project leads. actually the process says doing it via the mailing list.

I agree that project lead elections should be taken care of by the project management infrastructure. This feature should be added to the new implementation.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

The PMI-based implementation of Project Lead elections does this. The new implementation of Committer elections (which should be available in early January) will do this as well.

The Portal implementation will be phased out, so I'm marking this as WONTFIX.
