After updating to latest egit I receive a warning in History View: "The list is incomplete Configure Preferences" This is highly confusing as it does not give any clue what that is about. Opening the helpful link does not reveal any suspect list in preferences either. Along with that, the warning takes the valuable space in already packed History view, could you kindly tell how the hell to get rid of it. Finally I figured that the message relates to maximum number of commits. But that does not help. 10000 is a big number but the number of commits in CDT repository is bigger. I would like to keep the limit and get rid of the warning message so I could see a couple more commits in history in the view. Right now there is just 6 commits showing on my laptop.
Andrew, how do you propose the user be informed that there are more commits than those that are not shown in the table? I am also bothered by this but do not have any good ideas at the moment.

I think it would be appropriate to inform the user when they actually face the problem, i.e get to the end of the list (IMHO quite the rare occurrences). How about an idea to put this information to the last row of the table, perhaps in different color and say the warning sign can stay at the graph column? When the row is selected, revision comment window could be used to provide the hyperlink to the preferences. If it is not quite elegant, it'd be OK with me to forfeit the link, the preferences would be the place to try to look for the limit anyways. Umm, I guess there could be also unwelcome surprises with the search, maybe it would be also appropriate to add the warning to the search bar.
Most confusing is that the opened preference page does not allow to set the limit.

I agree with Andrew that the warning should be shown as last item in the list. Make sure it stays there even when the history is filtered. If a link in the comment pane is too much work, you can also just spell it out in the warning message, e.g. "Warning: Number of shown commits limited to 10000, see Preferences > Team > Git > Views".
I believe https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/c/4940/ fixed this issue
(In reply to comment #6) > I believe https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/c/4940/ fixed this issue No, the same bug is still there.
To test, I set the commit limit to 10. This completely breaks the History view.
Yeah, this is still in SR2. Was confused by the brief message and had to find this bug to know it wasn't just me. The panel should be dismissible at least, though I like Andrew's suggestion in comment 3 best.
