Maybe you've already done this, but it'd be nice to confirm that Ant 1.8.2 works fine with base builder, before Ant 1.8.2 is in an official milestone, just in case there are special problems that show up only in batch build. (See Platform's bug 302296).

So, I was thinking, if easy for you, if you could create a basebuilder based on M5, but instead of 1.7.1 Ant, slip in Ant 1.8.2. I think you only use plugins for base builder (not features) so should be a feasible hack.

And ... the point I've been trying to get to ... if you have such a base builder, even in a "temp branch" or tag, I'd be happy to help test it out with you in our WTP builds. I expect it will work fine. I've already tried it as the "outter ant" (that's used for some sections of our build) but naturally when we invoke antRunner app to do something it'd be picking up 1.7.1 from the base,

Thanks, for your consideration.

Hi David

Sure, no problem. We don't have the new Ant in our builds yet. The Ant team is working on addressing some performance issues before we release them into the build.

Sounds reasonable, but this is just for testing purposes right? I.e., I wouldn't recommend using such a basebuilder to produce any "official" WTP builds until the fairly major bugs that came up with 1.8.2 are worked out (likely early M6).

Yes, I meant just for testing. Thought that'd be good to do that before the final decision to move to this version of Ant in Platform. And just offering to help :)

I'll target a basebuilder for next week's integration build. We just released the new Ant version on Tuesday afternoon.

Do you have an M5 base builder? (Independent of the ant change ... just pure M5) ... I'm asking since I've been reading up on the new feature support, and sounds like that will take an M5 version of PDE. Right? I didn't see anything tagged with R37_M5 ... but wondered if you had some other tag you've been using?

R37_M5 has been tagged

tag v20110216 of org.eclipse.releng.basebuilder is based on I20110215-0800. It's not just M5 + the new Ant because there are changes required in other Ant bundles so I thought it would be easier just to use the bundles from the last I-build.

Thank you very much, Kim. This version of the builder is working fine for us.
We'll continue to use it until there is a more "official" M6 version, or whatever. Thanks again.

You're welcome David. Glad I could be of help.
