We have separate client implementations for Tree and Table with a huge overlap in functionality.
By merging both implementations, we could

* solve a couple of Table bugs that are already solved in the Tree
* reduce the size of our compressed client.js by ~ 40kB
* ease maintenance by eliminating redundancy
