Hi, replication - create a new Xtext project, in the text field Extensions: set two extensions e.g. mydsl ext2 - the extensions are propagated into the mwe2 file: var file.extensions = "mydsl ext2" - run the generator - run Eclipse with the generated plugins - check Window > Preferences > General > Editors > File Associations there is *.mydsl ext2 associated with the generated editor - open a source file with the defined language explicitly with the generated editor - right click the file > Open With > Other > select the editor An error is displayed: Could not open the editor: Editor could not be initialized. Details: java.lang.IllegalStateException: The resource factory registered for platform:/resource/mydsl/default/file.ext2 does not yield an XtextResource. Make sure the file name extension is correct (case matters). at org.eclipse.xtext.ui.editor.model.ResourceForIEditorInputFactory.createResource(ResourceForIEditorInputFactory.java:77) at please put a comma between the extensions. We should validate the property in the workflow component.
(In reply to comment #1) > please put a comma between the extensions. > We should validate the property in the workflow component. Hi Sven, thank you for reply. Well, I tried comma too but in that case only the first extension is propagated to var file.extensions = "mydsl" I think that another issue is that when I try to open a file e.g. file.abc explicitly selecting the editor (Open With), the editor shall not throw an exception because of unregistered extension but open the file. At least other editors do that in Eclipse. Otherwise Xtext seems to be an amazing tool.
I've added a validation for the generator component and fixed the wizard. I also made the Xtext editor use an injected Resource.Factory which lets it open any file no matter which file extension (the builder will still ignore them).
