When a file is modified that has trailing spaces in it with "trim trailing spaces" turned on, saving the file trims the spaces but the asterisk still shows up before the file immediately afterward even though no new changes have been made to the file. This is confusing and annoying because a subsequent Ctrl-S to save the file does not turn off the asterisk. Having the extraneous * there makes it harder for developers to see which files have really been modified since last saved.
