Description Ian Bull CLA 2010-12-08 14:00:07 EST
It seems that nominations for the community awards are being handled via a 'web form' instead of a traditional bugzilla entry. There are a few things I miss about the 'old' way of doing things:

1. How do we follow the nominations? (I really enjoying reading about what certain individuals have done for the community).

2. How do we vote +1 for existing nominations?

It was mentioned (on twitter) that the web forms are more 'friendly' for those who do not use bugzilla, however, I would argue that anybody who is nominating someone for Top Committer or Top Contributor should be intimately familiar with our bugzilla system ;-).

I wonder if it would be possibly to back the web form implementation with a bugzilla entry? That way, those who wish to 'follow' can CC themselves.

Crazy times we're living in. Moving out of Bugzilla to that World 'Wild' Web they're talking about! Young whippersnappers!

Originally we had only planned to move the product awards off to Marketplace, but it seemed awkward to have two different ways to nominate product/project/people. So we've moved to a set of web forms to make life a bit easier for Lynn and myself on the admin side of things. We'll be able to reuse these forms and pages next year with minimal impact.

As for your concerns, all the nominations allow for you to add your own comments, using your same bugzilla login. So you can add throw your support behind Carl Cobol and +1 Sally Smalltalk.

Bugzilla is easier to follow, I'll give you that. However adding the kind of functionality to Marketplace to create shadow bugs on bugzilla seems needlessly complicated for something you can bookmark.

Rather annoying because now I need to refresh manually instead of getting email notifications about new nominees. :/

Doesn't look like we are getting it back.

Should this bug be marked as "Won't fix"?

I actually have very little to do with the Awards process.

Re-assigning to Perri. Perhaps she can help.

Yep, makes sense. It seems we've moved on to newer technologies. However, I just looked through the old bugs (they are actually really good to read BTW), and we had between 6 and 16 nominations each year. Are we seeing the same sort of nomination support with the new tool?
