Description Martijn Cremer CLA 2010-11-12 09:49:58 EST
Build Identifier: 2.6.1.v20100709-7m9f7NFT0z0-Im5IWab4F6

I set my preferences to cm size.

I got an object in my report and I changed the orientation from portrait to landscape. I had to adjust this item. I setted that size in millimeter (mm) but I noticed it jumped back to inch (in).

This is not preferred most printing in europe is done in the size of mm or cm (mostly milimeter becouse this is more precise).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. set size in mm
2. Scale by UI interface to a noter size
3. Size is changed to in.

Hi,

I can not reproduce this issue with the 2.6.1 release build.

My steps:
1. Create a Label, set its width/height to 10in in property editor.
2. Change Master page's orientation from 'Auto' to 'Landscape'.
3. Switch back to layout view, choose the label -> switch to 'property editor' -> 'Advanced' -> Choose 'Height' or 'Width'
4. Set 'Width' or 'Height' of the label to 10mm.
5. The change took effect correctly. It did not change back to 10in.

Did I misunderstand your steps?

I think I wasn't detailed enough:

1. Create a lebel, set with/heigt to 10 in in property editor.
2. Change size using the mouse.
(When you do this you see the property change back to in)

What i think is also weard is if you set your default to mm or cm it does not do this with items there always in inch.. not in your default property.

Hi Martijn,

I don't understand this step. BIRT doesn't support change item size by mouse(drag) in the layout view. Could you elaborate in more detail how you change the width/height value by mouse in the UI/(or property editor?)?

Sorry for the late response.

I tried to recreate the bug with screen capture and for that I thought it was a good idea to start from the Preferences screen. Were I discoverd that in the Layout options (Menu Window->Preferences->Report Design->Layout) was set to auto.

When I set this to mm or cm it works great. But with Auto you would expect that the settings come from the system settings (running Windows 7 with Dutch reagion (Metric). But it seems when it set to Auto it will work by default with U.S. standard (inches).

Also when you create a document like this it will use default settings based on inch (not convert them to cm or mm) It would be nice if you set the settings to mm or cm (or eny format that it also will set the default settings of a report to the richt settings)

meaning that when in inches it convers it to cm (1 to 2.54) or to mm (1 to 25.4).

Maybe also add the option to change the default layout of a document (not the unit but the default target (eg not US letter but a4 etc).
