Description Jeff McAffer CLA 2010-11-09 09:15:20 EST
When you have a spare moment or two, it would be a considerable service to the consumer community to improve the Jetty download web pages.
	http://download.eclipse.org/jetty/
It might just be me but looking at a particular build, for example,
	http://download.eclipse.org/jetty/8.0.0.M1/dist/
it is very hard to figure out which of those things is actually Jetty. My best guess is that only 2 are the distribution and everything else is hashes and "other stuff"

A bit more feedback. On the main downloads page it is hard to tell what the most recent release is. I know how Eclipse works so figure that an "M" build is not what I want. Stable-7 looks attractive but there is no information as to what it actually is (if I already have 7.x is that one newer?). The 7.2 stuff could be it there is an RC0 and then a "real" version. I'd have expected more RCs if it was really released (but perhaps I know too much...)

Jeff,

The "Stable-7" is a link to whatever is the most recent release of jetty 7 (as of today that is 7.2.0.v20101020).

Perhaps we should add some more links in there for jetty-8 to make it clear that 8 is not yet stable.

We could also add onto the page a link to our release matrix:
 http://wiki.eclipse.org/Jetty/Starting/Porting_to_Jetty_7

and more fulsomely described here:
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/JETTY/Downloading+Jetty

Great. Idealy the download page would show that so people who already have "the latest" can tell if their "latest" is the same as your "latest".

Not that it is the be all and end all but I'm talking about something like the Equinox download page.
   http://download.eclipse.org/equinox/
Section headings and very modest text so that people can easily identify the builds of interest.

Sure though it would be best if the downloads page were self-contained.

Anyway, just some feedback from someone who went and tried to "get Jetty" and ended up having to ask a committer what the right thing was.

I've updated the index.sh script so that it produces some more information about each line.

I've also assigned this issue to Jesse - can you (or hughes?) update the wiki to include instructions as to how to generate the P2 and eclipseRTJetty artefacts - so they can be built for the latest.

cheers
