Description karthickeyan.t.s CLA 2010-10-28 13:38:04 EDT
Hello Team,

I've downloaded EclipseGalileo for EE Development version. But i cant use it.

If i open it, it is hanging frequently.

First time, it was hanging when i tried to create a jsp file and automatically closed.

Second time, it was hanging when i tried to create xml file and automatically closed.

Third time, it is permanently hanging. even i couldnt close it manually.

It shows error occured when using some plugins/jar files. i didnt note those jar files.

Kindly advise me on this how to come out from this issue.

Galileo? Are you sure? What URL did you use? You just unzipped or use software repository?

1) Why not use the latest Helios version?

2) If you really need Galileo for some reason, then I suspect it's not a problem with Galileo version, per se, or it would have been reported long long ago.

So here's some other possibilities and tips:

a) You unzipped into fresh directory, right? Not on top of previous one? I'm just asking the obvious question since something seems "messed up" with your installation.

b) Have you tried a brand new, completely fresh workspace? If that still fails, then sounds like a "pure" install issue. If that works ok, then I suppose one possibility is your workspace is "bad" (or, perhaps, created with a newer version of JEE Package?) It is very unlikely that any workspace would cause these severe of problems ... but, figure it worth you trying with a fresh workspace, to be sure.

Hope this helps.

Hello David,

First of all thanks for replying.

My requirement is i want to develop/test some struts applications using eclipse.

So that i used EclipseEuropa 3.2 version. In that version i got some error like the Struts applications not working properly. ie, deployment successful. when i try to execute the application, it showing like "resource not available 404 error". So i put it in Forum. they suggested to use new version of Eclipse. So that i selected EclipseGalileo. But it is not working properly.

I downloaded the version properly from the link : http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-java-ee-developers/galileosr2

And unzipped the content into a new folder. it was successful. Also i created new workspace folder and use. Initialy it was working fine for some 20 mins. After that it was hanging.

I tried with new fresh workspace. this time also its hanging.

Also i want to know, why you offer this many versions of Eclipse like

1. Helio
2. Galileo
3. Ganymede
4. Europa

Whats special with these versions individually?.

For my requirements, J2EE development(corejava, struts, servlets, jsp, hibernate, javascript, css, xml, wsdl, jdbc) which version is the best one.

I want to suggest you that please mention in each versions like this version is good for which kind of J2EE development.
Please ignore my point above,if i shoudnt suggest.

Thanks for replying.

These represent our yearly releases, with Europa being the oldest, and Helios the newest (2010). Normally you'd want the very latest version, unless you know for sure there is some reason you have to use an older one.

So, sounds like it worked for a while, and then you started having trouble?

Did you install some other software/tools "on top" of Eclipse JEE? Perhaps it is that other software that's causing the problems? Since we don't offer any struts or hibernate tools "out of the box", that's why I'm wondering if you installed other tools too. If so, those tools may have to be installed on a a very specific version of Eclipse JEE.

Or, do you see the problem only after creating a certain project or certain type of file? You will need to provide some step-by-step procedure for us to reproduce the problem. Often, attaching a file or project that's causing you trouble can help us recreate, but I can't tell if you are getting that far.

Thanks,

I'm closing this as invalid for now, since I suspect some kind of install or third party plugin problem, but my all means do re-open if you can give steps for us to recreate.
