Build Identifier: unknown Eclipse crashes after applying the GWT and App engine plugins from the Helios update site as provided by Google (http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.6). I have already tried the -nosplash option as mentioned in another bug but it does not resolve the issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install GWT and App Engine for Helios from the update site 2. Restart Eclipse 3.

Is this consistently reproducible? Do you get this problem with the Eclipse SDK? http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.6.1-201009090800/index.php > I have already tried the -nosplash option as mentioned in another bug but it > does not resolve the issue. What is this "another bug" you speak of?

(In reply to comment #4) > https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=321218 That's a crash in the VM and is orthogonal to your problem.
I downloaded the JavaEE bundle as mentioned on the eclipse download site: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/epp/downloads/release/helios/SR1/eclipse-jee-helios-SR1-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz&url=http://ftp.kaist.ac.kr/eclipse/technology/epp/downloads/release/helios/SR1/eclipse-jee-helios-SR1-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz&mirror_id=466 Is this different from the 3.6.1 release you've posted here?
(In reply to comment #6) > Is this different from the 3.6.1 release you've posted here? Your file is eclipse-jee-helios-SR1-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar. The one I linked to is eclipse-SDK-3.6.1-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz. And yes, their contents are different.

I am not able to launch the GWT update site as this build doesn't allow me to do so. Says "it isn't configured for updates". Error log says its looking for "equinox". Could you provide me info on how I should be proceeding? I considered this to be a configured build.

I am experiencing the same problem. I tried both 64 bit and 32 bit versions or Helios R1 (J2EE version), downloaded from RedIris.es mirror. I have just updated Java SDK 1.6 to 1.6.22 (Mac Java Update 3) and the problem persits. I am running Snow Leopard on a iMac (March 2009 model)
I too am having this problem. I tried with the helios 64 and 32bit J2EE packages, and the java developers package. I also tried downloading the SpringSource addons, and used its extensions feature to install first a recent eclipse patch to prevent a crash, and then did the google plugin through that, and it also crashed. I also tried downloading the SpringSource version of Eclipse, installed the patch and then the google plugin, and that does NOT crash. I found that startup can be restored by moving the google plugins out of the eclipse/plugins folder. During startup, the last module shown on the splash screen before the crash appears to be com.google.gdt.eclipse.suit I just downloaded the Eclipse SDK version linked above (eclipse-SDK-3.6.1-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz), and when I select Help->Install New Software ... I get a popup that says: "Cannot complete this request. The installation has not been configured properly for Software Updates. See the error log for details." (In reply to comment #13) The following is the log entry that occurs each time the Install Software error pops up. This is a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.5. I just tried to reproduce this bug but without success. Somehow I suspect that the archive you have downloaded is corrupted. Could you please do a recursive listing of eclipse/p2/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine/profileRegistry/ and paste it here. Thx.

You must be right. I just redownloaded the SDK, and it allowed the install software menu option this time. I was able to get the google code update and reboot just fine. Maybe I downloaded the other one over my UDP based VPN while I had other downloads going or something .... Thanks! T
Closing.
The same thing has just happened to me. (Indigo + GPE 3.7) Nothing suspicious happened during the download/install process. Shouldn't there be way of handling these situations? Merely closing the bug does not feel right. The title of this bug is still valid: if Eclipse happens to apply a corrupted archive it basically becomes a dead pile of folders. I hope I don't sound harsh/offensive, but it seems like the bug has been closed just because you have been able to re-install Eclipse...? Cheers JZ
> The same thing has just happened to me. (Indigo + GPE 3.7) I had the same problem: after installation of plugins Eclipse wouldn't start. (Mac OSX Lion, Eclipse Indigo) During installation I have mistakenly selected https://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/4.2 server. Installation quit with an error, and than I installed plugins from https://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.7. After that Eclipse wouldn't start. The problem seems to be that the wrong server https://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/4.2 got saved in the list of available sites and since "contact all update sites during install..." was selected, some files were downloaded from wrong location (so they were wrong files). I deleted all new files from eclipse plugin folder. Updated Eclipse (just in case). Deleted https://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/4.2 from available sites (there is a link "Available Software Sites" under "Add" button of Install new software dialog box). Then I opened "About eclipse"/"Installation details" "Installed software" tab and uninstalled google plugins. After that I installed plugins from https://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.7 and now it works OK!
