Description Jeff McAffer CLA 2010-10-15 21:36:46 EDT
when running ant using the eclipse executable the Ant ${user.dir} on the Mac is the dir in which the eclipse launcher lives (e.g., <eclipse install>/Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS) whereas on Windows user.dir is the current working directory when the application is run. My assumption is that this is something quirky in the way the equinox launcher is starting Java. Could be wrong. Either way, the inconsistency is problematic and I'm still trying to remember how I've run PDE Build on the Mac without using the java executable.

Adding Andrew since he likes executable things...
Comment 2 Andrew Niefer CLA 2010-10-18 14:37:16 EDT
Mac contains a chdir to the directory containing the executable. The call has been there forever, I don't know why.
Comment 3 Jeff McAffer CLA 2010-10-18 16:31:59 EDT
does the launcher work without it? Is this perhaps some standard thing about the way Mac apps work? Most importantly, is this something that we would consider API and so not change or is it a "bug" that we can fix :-)

Is there a good workaround for this problem?
Comment 5 Eclipse Genie CLA 2020-07-01 16:04:01 EDT
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

Still relevant. Still a problem.
