In the CVS synchronize view right click on a node with children offers an 'Expand All' option to expand all child nodes.  That simplifies the use-case where a node has many subnodes to get to the actual content (like 'org/foo/myapp/component/Foo.java').

Just found that a double-click will perform an expand all.

The double-click option seems adequate.
