Description Dzmitry [zmicer] Harachka CLA 2010-09-28 03:37:40 EDT
Would you please look through the following cases and provide your assistance. May be they also provide you some background on how to adjust functionality of linkage between portal and CVS.

This cases were sent to webmaster@eclipse.org

A.
I am a newcommer at eclipse community. Some weeks ago I was provided with CVS account info, and then I decided to change my password.

I logged in portal.eclipse.org, changed a password, then was able to login using new password.

Then I changed CVS preferences at eclipse, specifying extssh to be used and providing new password. But it did not work saying there are auth problems.

B.
Then I tried to make a login to portal site one more time, and it worked. I decided to change a password at my profile page, clicking
Change my Eclipse.org password
https://dev.eclipse.org/committers/committertools/passwd.php

there I have specified password I used to login (tried for some times to login to be sure all is ok as password was rather complicated), specified new password and was answered by system

Your current password is incorrect. Your password has NOT been changed.

btw, my password contains symbols
/
]
'
but when I changed it initially, from first, received pwd to my own - all was ok.

C.
Finally, I made a log out and clicked at
I'm a committer and need a password reset!
https://dev.eclipse.org/portal/myfoundation/portal/portal.php?anon=committer_password_reset

enetered all data, received email, clicked at https://dev.eclipse.org/portal/myfoundation/portal/portal.php?anon=password_reset&GUID=e3ab406ad0123e3d29496f65f I received and was told by the system that reset would be done and I would receive a mail with new email in 5 minutes. I checked my gmail and spam folders, but nothing received.

D.
I could still login to portal.eclipse.org, but CVS commit from eclipse doesn't work.

E. After some days (3-4) I have received a new password and also a letter from webmaster
>>>
You recently recieved a password reset request that you didn't request. I've investigated and it turns out this was the result of an overly aggressive script. Our recent hardware update changed which node was processing password resets and when the script was restarted this morning it went through the history and inccorectly re-processed all password resets. I'll be updating the script to prevent this kind of behaviour in future.

Sorry for the noise, and inconvienience.

>>>

I have checked portal site - and it works for new password (received after 3-4 days after I asked for it), but CVS write access still is not with me.

Thank you very much for consideration of the cases.

Can you use the password to 'login' via ssh to dev.eclipse.org?

-M.

Hi!

I have re-checked item E - and still have the same - using new password I could login to portal.eclipse.org and can not commit at CVS (ssh for dev.eclipse.org).

Just several minutes ago I changed my password again at portal.eclipse.org.
I was said "Your password has been changed successfully. Please update your repository settings."

I have re-checked if I could login to portal.eclipse.org using this new password - and I could. But the same for CVS commits:

The server reported an error while performing the "cvs commit" command.
org.eclipse.emf.texo: cvs [commit aborted]: could not open lock file `/cvsroot/modeling/org.eclipse.emf/org.eclipse.emf.texo/plugins/org.eclipse.emf.texo/src/org/eclipse/emf/texo/model/,ModelResolver.java,': Permission denied

Seems to be there is a kind of un-synchronization between CVS and portal.eclipse.org.

Please would you please assist me in obtaining write access to CVS.

Thanks,
Dzmitry

I have found a description of similar problem here

To exclude any possible problems related to eclipse environment configuration I have installed WinCVS (and cvsnt), supporting extssh (as my windows client TortoiseCVS did not), and tried to commit from this wincvs client. The same happenned as for eclipse.

One more time checked portal.eclipse.org - I could login.

Please assist in any way to have this issue solved. I have re-checked all the local settings, spent some time googling, and for now seems to be this is server side issue.

I've reset your password, and you should have received the email notification. With that password, I was able to connect to the portal (using your user id: dharachka) and to SSH at dev.eclipse.org using the same user id and password.

Please change the password at your earliest convenience.

Hi, dear Denis!

I was able to login and change password at portal, and then checked my CVS and that works nice!

Btw, have you any thoughts on why this took place?

Your Dzmitry
