Description Sam Davis CLA 2010-09-24 14:33:20 EDT
h2. Current behaviour

* dragging a task to a date bin changes the scheduled date and does not change the due date.
* tasks are displayed under the earlier of their scheduled and due dates

This means that when a task's scheduled date is after it's due date, dragging it to a different date after its due date appears to have no effect.

h2. Proposed new behaviour

* dragging a task to a date bin should still change the scheduled date
* tasks are still displayed under the earlier of their scheduled and due dates
* when dragging a task to a bin that is after its due date, pop up a dialog asking the user if the due date should also be changed:

You have rescheduled <task name> for <new scheduled date>, which is past its due date of <due date and time>. Check the box to also change the due date.
[x] Change due date. <date/time selection widget, prepopulated with 11:59pm on the new scheduled date>
 				[OK]

It might be good to have either or both of "Do not ask me to change due dates" or "Always change due dates when..." check/radio boxes because otherwise this dialog could get annoying if people are frequently scheduling tasks past their due dates.

That sounds like a good suggestion. Prompting is better than changing the scheduling date which has no visible effect.
