Build Identifier: 20090619-0625 The server does not report any error or warning in logs, the excel is obtained but when you try to open it with excel, this reports a weird error that says that the file could be broken or it is in an unknown format. I tried to open it in many computers and ms office version as well. The version of birt that we are using is 2.5.0 I've tried to open it with excel 2000 / 2003 and 2007 with no success. Notepad can show the contents of the file, but it has 0 or 3 bytes of size, and it is blank too. The same report exported in other format like PDF is filled and obtained ok. Hi, Could yo please attache your report design for me to reproduce this issue? And you also have this issue in the designer, right?
According to the comments in birt-exchange forum, the issue exists with the specific report design. Set as worksforme for now. If a report design can be attached for reproducing this issue, please feel free to reopen.

Jh, Sorry for replying late. Xiaoying is on vacation now. The files you attached only contain xls file. We need a report design which contains only portable data source. thanks.

Jh, The data source in the design is "srvvirt-dbdev:1521:dms2" which can't be connected. Can you attach the report document?

Jh, Please attach report document. Report document can be generated by 1. right click on report design 2. click report->generate document

Created attachment 192057 [details] patch for excel emitter. Because your design uses a data source we can't access, so we can't run the design and reproduce the problem. But given a report document, we don't need to access the database. Anyway, it looks like a problem fixed before. I attach a patch for excel plugin, Please try it.

In %eclipse_hoem%/plugins, there is a plugin called org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.prototype.excel.****.jar, you need to remove it and replace it with the attached one. Please backup the original one but don't keep it in plugins folder.
Understood Jun! This application is a Web ARchive, and I have the pluggins folder deployed, where I have all the emmiters, with the same name as you mentioned, tomorrow I will perform the tests with this new path. thanks in advance, and I will send you our results. JH
Created attachment 195230 [details] resulting test with the excel emmiter patch This is the result of the test, patching the birt platform with the given .jar file. The error remains the same aparently.
Dear Jun and team, We performed the tests with the given emitter with no success. The approach was performed with different tomcat environments, out of the box, avoiding the catching of old emitter jars that could be stored in the work/tmp directory. But the problem remains. I've attached the rpt pdf OK and excel with failure, with a screenshot also. best regards! J
