Currently error highlighting in build console is done with background coloring. It should be possible to configure that using foreground color, and perhaps that should be a default setting. We can also consider having current error selection highlighted with bold font. See also bug 325537.

Yes, I think you need the combination of red and bold. The idea is to highlight the text of the error. Coloring the background, while making the errors easy to find actually reduces the contrast making the text harder to read.

I think this is a good idea.  Maybe seeing a screenshot to compare would clinch it?
