Description arne anka CLA 2010-09-15 04:35:45 EDT
Build Identifier: I20100608-0911

i'd like to be able to see results of older queries, but the results view only ever displays the most recent result.
a tab name of "Result1" indicates that it should be possible to get more results than just that one, though.

Reproducible: Always

Something is wrong here. The SQL Results view has always supported showing a history of previous results. I'm adding an attachment that shows this.

The "Result1" indicates that there can be more than one result set associated with the same Run operation. That can happen with certain database (such as DB2) that can return multiple result sets from one stored procedure.

i think, we speak of different features.
when you say "history", you probably refer to the left part of your screenshot, the table with "Status", "Operation", "Date" ...

but that's not what i meant: i'd like to see more tabs to the left ("Result2", "Result3", ...), each containing the _actual_ result of previous results, like QuantumDB does for instance. That way i, for example, easily could switch between different results for a slightly modified query.

as i see now possible by clicking a history entry (not very obvious), but the usability is very limited not at least because of #325106, since i, for example, use "Vertical View Orientation" and have resized the "Status"/"Result" part to cover the history to make as much use as possible of the very limited screen space.

Here's my suggestion:
1. Use the Horizontal View Orientation
2. Make the History section very narrow
3. Use the "Display result in a single tab" option. This hides the Status tab when there is a result set

This allows you to rapidly switch between result sets with maximum space for the results. See the attached screen capture.

Closing with the suggested work-around. We don't have the resources to do a major rework of the SQL Results view. (Unless someone volunteers to contribute the code ... :-)
