After having downloaded the new version of Babel on a fresh version of eclipse, i have lost menu items :
- import project
- export project
- close
maybe more, i haven't tried everything.

But, the menu items are here. They are just in grey and i can't select them, no matter what. I've also lost some shortcut like Ctrl + W to close a tab.
I really need these features.

My last details :
- i use 64 bits
- so, in order to be able to download babel, here is my eclipse.ini :
-startup
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.0.v20100507.jar
--launcher.library
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.0.v20100503
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
512m
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
-vmargs
-Xms40m
-Xmx512m

- and i use the french translations.

Ah, and i have also tried this with the JEE version of Eclipse to check but it's the same result.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Download the french babel translation
2.Restart Eclipse
3.

I use the JDK 1.6.0_21-b07
Comment 2 Kit Lo CLA 2010-09-10 12:50:32 EDT
Did you try your Eclipse without the French translations? Same problem?
Comment 3 Zack Mellermint CLA 2010-09-10 16:01:33 EDT
Yes yes, i have used it without anything. I've dezipped the pack and used like it was, nothing to say.
And i tried with another language (just to be sure ^^') : the result is the same.

But it isn't just some menu items : when you select a part of the frame, it is colored with blue. But after installing babel, even this part is acting weird. And i can't select other new kind of view.

I don't know why but it's totally messing with eclipse in my case.
Comment 4 Zack Mellermint CLA 2010-09-12 17:31:01 EDT
I've ran a last test to be sure : i've taken the previous version of eclipse Classic 64 bits (Build id: M20100211-1343), and i've installed Babel v0.8.
It's perfect, no problem.

So i've re-tried my eclipse (I20100608-0911) and the problem is still here.
It seems it completely messes with Eclipse 3.6 but not with the 3.5.2.

Eclipse SDK 3.6 on Win7

This is what I tried:

- downloaded eclipse-SDK-3.6-win32-x86_64.zip (http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.6-201006080911/download.php?dropFile=eclipse-SDK-3.6-win32-x86_64.zip)
- downloaded BabelLanguagePack-eclipse-fr_3.6.0.v20100814043401.zip (http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/babel/babel_language_packs/R0.8.0/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse-fr_3.6.0.v20100814043401.zip)
- unzipped them on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with IBM JRE 1.6.0 SR8 FP1
- started Eclipse -nl fr

I did not have any problem running Eclipse. As the Babel stats indicated, 92.76% of the strings are translated into French.

Can you try that on another machine?
Comment 6 Zack Mellermint CLA 2010-09-13 13:26:02 EDT
I did the same way you have said and it works well ... except that i won't be able to make update easily with eclipse.
I re-tried the way i did before and the problem is still here.

I'm sorry but i won't be able to test it on another machine until the end of the week.

So, thanks, now i can use babel on Helios :-D. But the problem is still the same : it won't install well with the basic install system on eclipse.

I still don't understand your problem. Please provide step-by-step instructions to show your problem. We will investigate. Thanks!

So here are the steps :
- open Eclipse
- menu Help
- menu item Install New Software
- button add
- location : http://download.eclipse.org/technology/babel/update-site/R0.8.0/helios
- check french translation
- next then finish

That's what i meant by download by "with the basic install system on eclipse".
And this way doesn't work well : after restarting eclipse to apply the change, it is messed up in many ways.

Update

If you'd like to use the Eclipse update mechanism, this is what I did:

- Launch Eclipse SDK 3.6 64-bit
- Select "Help>Install New Software..." pulldown menu
- Click the "Add..." button to add the Babel Language Pack Update Site for Helios - http://download.eclipse.org/technology/babel/update-site/R0.8.0/helios
- Select the Babel Language Pack Update Site from the "Work with" dropdown list
- Check the checkbox for "Babel Language Pack for eclipse in French"
- Click "Next", "Next", then "Finish"

The result is the same as what I saw in the attached picture in comment 5 above. Once again, I do not have any problem with the Eclipse update process.

I'm resolving this bug as WORKSFORME now. Please reopen if you can come up with a scenario to show the problem. Thanks!

Have same problem here, but with some differences:
- I use windows vista x64
- I have the Spanish translation.

Some options in the [File] menu are grayed so i can't use them and others doesn't respond to the keyboard shortcut, as close, or close all.
