The option GDB/MI is not available when I create a "Debug Configuration" in my C project with eclipse Helios. This is a problem specially important as there is no way to interact with gdb from the command line.

Just realized you can get access to gdb/mi from the "debug configuration" screen. 
In your "debug configuration" change the process launcher to use "Standard attach to process launcher".

Closing as INVALID.
