Description Radoslav Gerganov CLA 2010-09-07 11:21:26 EDT
The command "Toggle Link with Editor" can be executed with key binding only when the Package Explorer is focused. When I am inside the Java editor the hotkey doesn't work. I think this is significant usability problem because there is no fast way to see where the file I am editing is located in the package explorer. I am forced to either use the mouse or to switch to package explorer first and then toggle link with editor. Both ways are slow and this is very common operation in my opinion.

"Toggle Link with Editor" is designed to work in the active view and is used in various other views as well. I don't think we should overload that in the Java editor and make it only toggle the Package Explorer (and not the Outline, Project Explorer, History view, etc.).

The fastest way to always see where you are is enabling the Breadcrumb (context menu or "Navigate > Show in Breadcrumb").

To interact with the element in the Package Explorer, use "Navigate > Show In > Package Explorer" (you can e.g. bind this to Alt+Shift+E or to Ctrl+P). F12 takes you back to the editor.

Thanks Markus, "Navigate > Show In >
Package Explorer" is exactly what I need. I am closing the bug.
