Description Charley Wang CLA 2010-08-23 16:47:08 EDT
I can't connect to GNOME bugzilla [1] with or without a username/password. In both cases I get a 403 error in BugzillaClient#authenticate when trying to fetch the configuration:

  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/config.cgi?ctype=rdf.

I am able to reproduce the error on a HEAD checkout as well as on my installation of Mylyn 3.4.

I should note that this problem seems similar to bug #206784 which is resolved as WORKSFORME, I will keep trying to connect to GNOME Bugzilla and update this bug as needed.

[1] https://bugzilla.gnome.org, also tried http://bugzilla.gnome.org

Charley, any luck getting this to work? We had some problems that sound similar (bug 325639) and we should make sure that the custom workflow support does not cause failures for users with less privileges.

I haven't been able to connect. I tried using the latest version of Mylyn 3.4 (Software update gave me 3.4.2.20100916) on Eclipse 3.6.0, as well as Mylyn 3.5.0.20100626 (which did not have custom workflows) on Galileo. Neither combination is able to connect to GNOME Bugzilla. In both configurations I tried with and without a password.

It has been a while since I last looked into this problem, but I think the issue was that Mylyn attempted to fetch the configuration file before authenticating. I'll insert some breakpoints and see if I can find the exact error again.

I tried again with a HEAD checkout of Mylyn, it does not connect with or without credentials.

Without credentials I get an error message about lack of credentials and with credentials I get an error: "Unable to login to https://bugzilla.gnome.org. HTTP authentication failed."

Looks like the error is thrown in BugzillaClient#authenticate, when the method executes the postMethod and gets a 403 error. I know the password/username are correct.

Frank, do you have any thoughts why this is not working?
Comment 5 Alexandre Mazari CLA 2011-02-21 03:12:04 EST
Hi there.

I think I am the culprit here: two years ago I was querying the gnome bugzilla using mylyn. The query was certainly wrong as it took 7mn to process on their server as the admins reported to me.

Thus, the gnome bugzilla admins banned the Mylyn user-agent "temporarily", and forgot to re-enable it.

I am again trying to use Mylyn with the Gnome bugzilla, so I'll ask them to white list the user-agent. I'll keep you updated on the evolution of the situation.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Mylin was unbanned from GNOME Bugzilla when Alexandre requested it (around 21 Feb). Did not notice any performance problems up to now.

I can confirm that I can now access the Gnome bugzilla using Mylyn.

Thanks Olav !
