Description Michael Rennie CLA 2010-08-13 10:45:55 EDT
code from HEAD

When authoring help topics you very often have to use the topic selection dialog if you use the PDE editors for contexts / topics. It is very frustrating that the dialog does not:

1. have a filter text box to help quickly find topics
2. at the very least pre-select the project you are currently working in. For those of us cursed with huge workspaces to find a topic can usually involve alot of scrolling.

Perhaps making it an extension of FilteredResourcesSelectionDialog would address issue 1? and setting the initial selection to the project that encloses the help index you are editing would address issue 2?

A possible fix

The platform does not provide a dialog that has both a text filter and a tree structure to show the resource path. The attached patch demonstrates 2 options 1) (commented out in patch) JDT has an internal dialog that can provide both 2) using a filtered list selection dialog makes it easy to filter by name, but you can't browse the tree structure.

(1) uses a number of internal JDT classes it will not be easy to copy.
(2) is frustrating if you don't know the exact name

Back to the inbox, I don't have a good solution for this. Any fix here should be applied to both the table of contents editor and context help editors.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
