... and conversely, the task editor should indicate the parent task of a local subtask.

Right now, the only visual indicator that one task is a subtask of another is via the 'group subtasks' functionaility in the Task List view.  This is quite useful, but the local task editor should also indicate that a task has subtasks or that a task is a subtask of another.

The Jira task editor does this reasonably well.  Is there any reason the local task editor cannot follow suit?

Sounds like a good idea. The problem is that local tasks do not have an ID so we wouldn't be able to reuse the same UI. I'll ad this to bug 322034 to consider it as part of enhancing local tasks.
