The list of people contains some persons twice, and essential information is missing. This list is broken and ought to be kept up-to-date especially for people with the authority to change bsic things -- like taking slaves offline and restarting hudson. E.g. Steve Powell is listed twice, but the one I filled in (and can edit) is not the one that apparently is responsible for changes and./or jobs...? Why are there two? Please fix this. In general the list of people in hudson is useless or essentially so. No-one appears to fill in the details and there is no compulsion to do so. There should be a policy on this, which means that at the least messages can be sent to people when they do things that affect the server/slaves.
This problem takes on a new piquancy under the new stable hudson instance.
The People list will only be as accurate as the number of people that have actually logged into Hudson. I believe it only adds the records when somebody first logs in. As for the duplicates, I think this may be a Hudson bug, and will have to be addressed by the Hudson developers. You'll need to open a bug with them. http://issues.hudson-ci.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa The appropriate contacts for maintenance going forward will be the Eclipse web masters for Hudson. And the appropriate forum to open and report those issues is through bugzilla. With this said, many of the problems you have been facing will be addressed shortly. As the new build machines come on line, and some nasty corner case bugs we have found in Hudson are addressed (one big one with IBM JVMs should be addressed shortly).
Dave, Please remove the duplicate Steve Powell person entry. The one that has been inactive for 2 months is the one to go. The other one is the one I'm using now (but I cannot update it -- perhaps because of the other). I'm not sure whether having duplicates is a hudson bug or not -- but removing it from this hudson instance in the first place would be a positive step forward. Thanks.

Created attachment 191661 [details] Screen shot Proof that Steve Powell appears twice in the people list.
Sigh. This is repoened.
Moving to Hudson as I agree with David that is most likely a Hudson 'bug'. Based on what I see it looks almost like there was a change in how entries in .hudson/users were 'named' that shifted from the login name to the 'Full name'. -M.
We are seeing similar behaviour in our Hudson, but I don't think this is a Hudson bug per say. I think it works as designed but there is a gap in the design. (If we are seeing the same thing) Users in Hudson isn't only the people who has signed up or someone created by the administrator, Hudson will also automatically create users. When Hudson is parsing the SCM change set from a build it will attempt to connect the changes with users present in the system. However if a user cannot be found, it will be created. The search for an existing user will happen only on the username, which will be matched up against the svn username or the name in case of git. A auto created user will only have his username set, (and in some cases displayname) but no password or other details. So no-one is able to log in as that user. What I think the screenshot is showing is one "Steve Powell" instance based on a SCM entry and one instance of a normally created user. The quick fix would be to get an admin to delete the signup instance and set the correct data on the auto created instance. The long term fix would properly be introducing a "Person" definition in Hudson and then connect SCM identities to it. Kinda like G+ and connected profiles. Suggest moving this bug back to eclipse setup for an administrator to collaps as many double entries as possible and then opening a feature request for designing the "Person" functionality
