Build Identifier: 20100617-1415 Since Java is now owned by Oracle Corporation which wants to rebrand everything it buys to its own name, we should change the legal disclaimer to reflect Java's new ownership before its lawyers get onto us. Keeping the text "Sun Microsystems, Inc." may bother its lawyers if it is left there too long in the splash screen. A trivial change could ward off this oncoming mess and save the Eclipse Foundation loads of money in legal costs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Eclipse 2. Launch Eclipse. The problem text shows up in the bottom of the splash screen.
I am changing the platform to PC Windows All because this would happen on all versions of Windows due to the problem being not dependent on which version of Windows is being used. I do not know what shows up in the splash screen on non-Windows platforms, so I have not included them in this bug.
We do have new wording and it's applied to the 4.0 Early Adopter Release Splash. We just need a similar update for Indigo. PW
Here is the wording: "Oracle and Java are registered trademarks of Oracle and/or its affiliates. Other names may be trademarks of their respective owners." From: http://www.oracle.com/html/3party.html
The wording approved by Eclipse Foundation legal is in bug 320532 (and uses the wording Prakash references)... I'll take care of this.
we also need to go from HELIOS -> INDIGO
...and we may as well get a 2011 version of this while we have the PSD file open so we can swap it in next year (holiday versions of the splash aside...)
fixed in HEAD >20100909. I also committed the PSD file and the 2011 version of the splash as well. EclipseSplash37_Indigo.psd EclipseSplash37_Indigo2011_20100909.bmp For 2011 we just need to rename the latter file to splash.bmp
I never tagged/released this into the feature.map file, so it is not in Build id: I20100914-0100. It is now tagged and will be in the next I-build for M2.
verified on I20100915-0100.
