This was fixed as part of https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=284782 so the 2.6 stream should already be fine.

Actually it is not a duplicate of that bug, but it was fixed in 2.6, bug 273829.
I will attach proper test case. And the patch here.

Ed, do you think you could release the patch into 2.4 maintenance stream?

We only provide maintenance support for the most recently released stream.  That's EMF 2.7 currently.  The fix you want is in EMF 2.6 and has been available for more than a year.  

So I'll return this as a duplicate of the bug that was used to make the change you've outlined.
